Enrichment and STEM classes in NYC cover coding, robotics, science labs, engineering with LEGO, math, cooking and languages, most of them for school-age children and a smaller set for preschoolers. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes, run as a weekly term or a school-break camp, and are hands-on: building, experimenting or making something each session. Class sizes are small, materials and laptops are usually provided, and many programs sort children by grade rather than age. A trial class or a single-week camp is the easiest way to test a subject before committing to a full term. Ages 3 to 5 is where most programs start taking children without a caregiver in the room: classes stretch to 45 minutes, follow a set structure, and begin teaching real technique.
